Bass Valley Primary School is a rural school situated between the Bass Highway and the small Coastal town of Corinella, on the land of the Bunurong/Boonwurrung people.
At Bass Valley Primary School, we implement a wide range of activities and initiatives to support a smooth and positive transition from primary to secondary school.
Grade 6 students are given the opportunity to step into leadership roles, including School Captain, Bus Captain, Arts Captain, Environment Captain, and House Captain. These positions come with clear responsibilities, helping students build confidence, independence, and a sense of accountability in their final year of primary school.
Senior students are also introduced to increased responsibilities, such as managing personal lockers and preparing for more independent learning environments. This gradual increase in responsibility helps to bridge the gap between primary and secondary expectations.
We maintain a strong and supportive partnership with San Remo Campus of Bass Coast College, which includes ongoing communication between teachers and students. This connection helps ensure that students are familiar with the people and expectations of secondary school before they begin.
Throughout the year, Grade 6 students participate in various transition-focused activities, including a surfing day—run in collaboration with the local secondary college—that promotes teamwork, resilience, and fun.
In Term 2, Bass Coast College – San Remo Campus hosts an information evening at our school for parents and students to learn more about the transition process and secondary schooling. Additionally, Orientation Day, held in Term 4, allows students to experience a day at their future secondary college, easing nerves and building familiarity with the new environment.
